RIDGWAY – Farmers in Elk County now have an option to plant seeds without tilling the soil.
The Elk County Commissioners approved the purchase of a no-till drill, which was recently delivered to the county’s conservation district. The new no-till drill is an alternative planting method by using a row of discs that cut into the soil. Seeds are dropped in behind the discs, and then a row of wheels compact the soil over the seeds.
The Elk County Commissioners say local farmers will be able to rent the new drill.
