Brockway, PA – The Brockway Fire Department received a federal grant to replace aging equipment in the borough, the Brockway Borough Council learned in its September meeting.
The $20,909 grant will be used to replace three-decade old vent fans and saws. The department is excited that it can replace this equipment, and is looking for funding to replace even more decades-old pieces.
The fire department responded to 12 alarms since the last meeting, with many in the borough being weather related.
The intersection project is still moving along, but the design phase has just begun. The plan is to get 30% of the design done and then get feedback from the borough. That will take some time, so Council President Chris “Smoke” Benson said that residents need to be patient through the process.
The council wrapped up its meeting talking about the money from the American Rescue Plan. The council wants to be careful to make sure they use the money correctly, so they have several steps in place to track where the money is going. The council encouraged agencies in the borough to submit proposals for their needs, but they need to be patient as the borough does not expect to distribute money before the end of the year.
The Brockway Borough Council opened its September meeting with a moment of silence recognizing the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The council will meet again October 7 at 7 p.m.
