Wilcox woman loses $1,450 to online dog scam

Jones Township, PA – An Elk County woman lost $1,450 to an online dog sale scam.

The 66-year-old Wilcox woman told police that she arranged to purchase a dog from a website on May 19.

She made a payment for the dog through a money transfer app, Zelle, for $900. She was then contacted to pay for shipping, which was an additional $550.

Ultimately she did not receive the dog, losing a total of $1,450.

Pet sale scams are becoming more common, so be mindful when purchasing anything (including pets) online.
