Elk County maternal health, senior services impacted by changes

RIDGWAY – Penn Highlands Healthcare in Elk County is moving their birthing services, and closing a senior living facility.

Just days after expectant mothers in Elk County learned that they will have to travel to Penn Highlands DuBois for the delivery of their babies; the residents and staff of Ridgmont Personal Care found out that the senior living facility in Ridgway will be closing this spring.

Certain maternal services are moving from Penn Highlands Elk to Penn Highlands DuBois, including labor and delivery. Prenatal, postpartum, and OB-GYN services will continue at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys.

The closing of Ridgmont Personal Care will impact more than 20 residents. Penn Highlands is offering to move those residents to a care facility in Brookville or New Bethlehem.
