Winter Weather Safety

UNDATED – As winter weather begins to wind up in our area, you are being urged to practice safe driving habits while on the roads.

With winter weather causing reduced visibility and slippery surfaces, you are advised to slow down, keep extra distance between vehicles, and make sure your tires and windshield wipers are appropriate for the weather.

Points mirrored by Steve Harmic, Safety Press Officer for PennDOT District two.

“The first couple big snow events of the year takes people a little bit of time to get used to driving in those conditions again,“ explained Harmic. “So we just ask people to avoid distractions, like cell phones, and to carry an emergency winter travel kit with you. So you are able to be prepared for anything winter might throw at you.”

Remember road conditions can change in an instant so leave with ample time and be prepared for delays.
