A life well lived ended on March 4, 2026, when William G. (Bill) Zortman, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the DuBois Nursing Home due to complications from cancer.
Bill was born on November 16, 1944, to William Albert and Nola Lucilla (Sprankle) Zortman in the DuBois hospital. He married Peggy (Murray) in 1971. She survives.
He was a member of the Reynoldsville-Sykesville graduating class of 1963 and served in the US Army between 1965 and 1967. He was a member of the Reynoldsville American Legion Post #392 and the Reynoldsville Elks post #519.
Bill worked for Bill Smith at his garage out of high school, at Jackson China Pottery, at Rockwell International and at Niagara Cutter. He was the first official employee when Niagara Cutter opened. Bill, along with his wife, owned and operated Lazer Printing Company for twelve years.
Bill loved gardening, mowing grass and travel. He and Peggy followed the open road on a Honda Gold Wing, motorcycle visiting all the lower forty-eight states. Bill was co-founder, and the first Chapter Director of the Reynoldsville Chapter I of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and served as the international organization’s Pennsylvania Director for two years.
The couple also followed NASCAR, attending races at many tracks.
Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, a brother, Philip and sister Janet Smith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers, Mark of Henderson, NV, Paul of Reynoldsville and John (Stella) of Nashville, TN as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Chase.
At Bill’s request there will be no public viewing, but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment is in the Reynoldsville Cemetery.
