Valerie Ann (Stormer) Hetrick
1964-2026

Valerie Ann (Stormer) Hetrick, age 62, of Brookville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at DuBois Hospital in DuBois, PA.

She was born on October 30, 1964, in Brookville, PA, to the late James T. and Carol Ann (Kramer) Stormer. Valerie attended Brookville High School, where she met her sweetheart, Duncan Hetrick. On March 19, 1983, he became her husband, and together they shared 43 years of marriage, building a life, a home, and a family filled with love.

Throughout the years, Valerie worked in many different places and was known for giving her best wherever she was needed. She spent time mowing grass at Pinecrest Country Club, worked at Jefferson Manor, Kullagruppen USA Tomato Plant in Ringgold, Woodlands Tavern, Bill’s Bar, and more recently, BB Cub House in Brookville. Her work with children seemed to come naturally to her. Kids were drawn to Valerie, and she had a way of making them feel comfortable, welcomed, and cared for.

That same gift carried into her own home. Valerie helped care for all kinds of children, whether they were hers or simply children who needed a place to be loved. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and she took pride in caring for her family in every way she could. Giving came easily to her. If someone needed help, a meal, a listening ear, or a place to feel at home, Valerie was there.

Her children and grandchildren were among the greatest joys of her life, and her love for her husband was just as strong. Family meant everything to her. She looked forward to Sunday dinners, family gatherings, and cooking for the people she loved. Valerie was an excellent cook, and she made sure everyone had enough, whether that meant enough food, enough comfort, or enough love. Her home was open, and so was her heart.

Valerie also loved animals, all animals, but her best friend was her dog, Ottis. Her family will also always remember Smokey, the pet squirrel who still lives in the home and became part of the stories that made their home uniquely theirs.

She was a good listener, easy to talk to, and someone who was never afraid to share her thoughts. She enjoyed a good conspiracy theory or two, and her opinions were often as entertaining as they were heartfelt. Her family will even miss what they lovingly called her “complaining,” because with Valerie, even that became something familiar, honest, and strangely comforting. It was part of the sound of home, and it will be deeply missed.

Valerie is survived by her beloved husband, Duncan Hetrick; two daughters, Amanda Dawn (Hetrick) Thomas and Amy Jo Hetrick; her sisters, Patty (Keith) Ishman, Jenny (Bob) Hill, and Terri (Brad) Smouse; her grandchildren, Sierra (Gabe) Rupert, Madison Watkins, Kaden Watkins, Lily Thomas, and Cameron Thomas; and one great-grandchild on the way, Paisley.

In addition to her parents, Valerie was preceded in death by her sister, Connie (Stormer) Trayer.

All services will be held privately and according to Valerie’s wishes. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McKinney - d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. Online condolences and other information may be found by visiting www.dargyfh.com
