Robert Hugh "Bert" Lahrman passed away unexpectedly on October 17, 2026. Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Danny and Robin (Mangone) Lahrman, he grew up in Columbia City, Indiana, graduating from Columbia City High School in 1999 before joining the United States Air Force.
Following basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and technical training at Fort Leonard Wood, Bert was stationed at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina, where he met the love of his life, Angelica "Angie" Boyer. After a whirlwind romance, they married on December 23, 2004, at the base chapel.
Bert's military career took his family around the world. While stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, they welcomed their first two children, Cadence and Spencer. The family later moved to Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, where Bert completed his military career.
A proud veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Bert served more than 15 years in the United States Air Force, retiring honorably as a Technical Sergeant (E-6) on January 31, 2015. His service in the Logistics Readiness Squadron and 70th MTD included deployments to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Sicily. His military honors included the Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Service Stars, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with six Oak Leaf Clusters, and numerous other military decorations.
Upon returning home, Bert and Angie purchased her family's farm in Jimtown, where they welcomed their youngest child, Bryce. He was also a partner in Coony Lawn Maintenance LLC alongside Tina Chillcott and Derek Chambers.
An animal lover, Bert often joked that he inherited the "animal whisperer gene" from his dad. Over the years, he rescued dogs, cats, bunnies, and even a goat.
A prankster at heart and the king of dad jokes, Bert loved making people laugh, even if it earned him a few eye rolls. A friend to everyone he met, Bert genuinely cared about others and never hesitated to drop what he was doing to help someone in need. His kindness, quick wit, and ability to bring laughter to any situation will be deeply missed.
A devoted Christian and member of Port Barnett Global Methodist Church, Bert loved the Lord and worked to instill that faith in his children.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Angie; their children, Cadence, Spencer, and Bryce Lahrman; his parents, Danny and Robin Lahrman; his sister, Charlene (Jamie) Gross; his mother-in-law, Penny Saxton, and father-in-law, Ken Boyer; his sister-in-law, Tina Chillcott; his brother-in-law, Bill (Kim Tharpe) Ramey; his nieces, Stephanie (Derek) Chambers, Kairi Weible, and Kiara Tharpe; his nephew, Brennen Niver; his great-nephews, Bentley and Conner Chambers; and his "brother from another mother," Brian Corum, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Beatrice Morgan; his brothers-in-law, Waylon Boyer and John Chillcott; and his father-in-law, Lewis Saxton.
