1942-2025
Rita M. Barr, age 83 of DuBois, Pa., passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Christ the King Manor.
Born in Soldier, Pa., on February 15, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Masisak) King.
Rita was married on July 8, 1961, in Punxsutawney, Pa. to David W. Barr, he preceded her in passing on January 14, 2022. They were married for 60 years. Their love was not just felt — it was seen.
Rita retired from Bi-Lo bakery and also worked many years at Carol’s Cake & Candy. She was a wonderful baker & enjoyed baking immensely. She made many wedding cakes, birthday cakes and cookies from her at-home business. Anyone who ever tasted one of her cakes or cookies would be lying if didn’t think it was the BEST. Being a wife, mother & grandmother was her passion; family meant everything to her.
Rita attended Tri-County Church of DuBois, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, bingo, playing cards and spending time with her family. She had an unwavering faith, devotion to God and the church.
She is survived by a loving family, sons; David (Donna) Barr of Sabula, John (Sue) Barr of DuBois, Tom (Marci) Barr of Brookville and son-in-law Frank Zelman, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, a brother Terry (Donna) King and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in passing by her daughter, Susan Zelman and sisters; Margaret Shreckengost and Helen Yusnukis, brothers; Robert, Paul, Joseph and John King.
Friends and family will be received at the Adamson Funeral Chapel & Crematorium on Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM and again on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 10 AM till time of service at 11 AM with Rev. Brian Spencer.
Interment will take place in Salem Cemetery.
