Paul (Poppy) John Janocha
1957-2025

Paul (Poppy) John Janocha, 68, of Punxsutawney, passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2025.

He was born on April 10, 1957, at Spangler Miners Hospital, the son of Patricia Janocha (Bicho) and the late John Janocha, and grew up in the big city of Rossiter, Pennsylvania.

Paul was a 1975 graduate of Jeff Tech. He worked as a coal miner for Greenwich before earning his nursing degree from Mount Aloysius College. He retired as a registered nurse from Christ the King Manor after many years of service. Paul was a member of SSCD Roman Catholic Church, Rossiter Sportsmen’s Club, and Rossiter American Legion Post 582. He was also an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church. Paul enjoyed many activities, including hunting, gardening, playing with his dogs, spending time with family and friends, and he never missed a high school football home game. He loved attending Music in the Park and going on beach vacations with his family to Ocean City, MD. Above all, Paul was a family man through and through, and his family all loved him for it.

In addition to his mother, Paul is survived by his long-time partner, Barbara Blose; three sons, Neil (Suzanna) Janocha, Jared Janocha, and Mitchel (Jennifer) Janocha; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Max) Crook and Randa (Bryan) McGowan; twelve grandchildren, Amelia, Joseph, Isaac, Jack, Henry, Cora, Cameron, Callen, Jacob, Samuel, Lucelia, and John; brother, Mark (Carol) Janocha; sister, Penny (John) Pierce; and sister-in-law, Shelly Janocha. He is also survived by his two dogs, Rosko and Finn, as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

In addition to his father, Paul was preceded in death by his brother, James Janocha and his nephew, Jonathan Pierce.

Friends will be received from 3-7 pm on Wednesday at McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA 15767. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church, in Punxsutawney, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 am with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo Celebrant.
