1934-2026
OmaJoye S. Dunmire passed away on June 8, 2026 at the age of 91. She was born on July 9, 1934, at home, in Perry Township, Jefferson County on the family farm, the daughter of M. Marie (Slawson) Stahlman and Paul H. Stahlman. She was the sixth of twelve children in the family, and the second of four daughters.
OmaJoye attended the Moser school through the eighth grade and was clever enough to have skipped the fourth grade at Moser school. Subsequently she attended and graduated from Punxsutawney High School at the age of 16.
On June 2, 1956, she married Arnold L. Dunmire who at the time was the owner and proprieter of Mid-Town Atlantic. They were married for 57 years, and she adored him.
After a few miscellaneous jobs after high school, OmaJoye was employed as a telephone operator with Bell Telephone. She also was the bookkeeper for her husband's garage business. In 1980, she and her husband established Dunmire Rentals on RT 36N, and OmaJoye excelled at renting and selling party supplies, candelabra, party fountains and the like to brides to be and for special occasions. She also attended Penn State Dubois campus and earned her real estate sales licence.
Throughout her adult life she attended the First United Methodist Church of Punxsutawney with her husband and daughter until that church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church and rebranded themselves as the "Journey Church". OmaJoye felt deeply that all persons were worthy of God's grace. As a member of the First United Methodist Church, she was active with the United Methodist Women, Women's Circle, taught Sunday School and Bible School and was often called upon to make table decorations for church events. OmaJoye was also a long time member of the Punxsutawney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
OmaJoye enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables, which took her back to her childhood days on the family farm. Beginning with her mother's apron strings, she became a consummate cook and baker, to which anyone fortunate enough to set at her table would attest.
OmaJoye and her husband were blessed with the birth of one child, Belinda Joye. OmaJoye made every effort possible to care for her daughter physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and was the best mother to Belinda she could be.
In addition to her daughter, Belinda Dunmire Attwood and son-in-law, Robert R. Attwood, OmaJoye is survived by her grandchildren, Dr. Wesley R. Attwood, and his wife, Sheila Renz, and by Sadie Joye Attwood, all of Washington County, Pennsylvania.
