Mrs. Sarah Mae Hughes, age 84 passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Born October 14, 1940 in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Ross and Ruth Walker
McKolanis.
Along with her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her sister Marion Ross Perkins, her brother Jerry Ross, and her step-father, Joseph McKolanis.
Sarah was a 1958 graduate of DuBois Area High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad. On June 14, 1958 she married Jim, the love of her life.
Sarah was a wonderful seamstress and she loved crocheting. She was an avid doll collector, a painter, and a wonderful cook who loved her pets dearly.
Sarah was a longtime member of Forestbrook Baptist Church where she taught many ladies the art of crochet in her weekly crochet class. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star having served as Worthy Matron in the DuBois, PA district.
She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, James Hughes; three daughters, Kim Wanson (Tom) of DuBois, PA, Cynthia Kelly (Mark) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sarah Lundgren (John) of Winchester, VA; six grandchildren, Cindy Haag (Andy), Damian Jenney (Mandy), Julia Pringle, Catie Lundgren, Zachary Lundgren (Chelsea), and Zane Lundgren; many great grandchildren, and twin great-great grandsons.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from 6 – 7:45 PM at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.
A service will be held on Wednesday at 8 PM from the funeral home with Glenn Hill officiating.
