Irene Marie LaBance, 79, of Delancey, passed away at home on Saturday, January 18, 2025, with her loving sister by her side.
She was born in Punxsutawney on October 15, 1945, a daughter of the late Steve Benedict LaBance and Irene (Pluchinsky) LaBance.
Irene was catholic by faith and a member of former St. Adrian and Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.
Irene worked as a Bookkeeper for years, for the Harvey Company, Ragleys Hardware, Miller Brothers Furniture and Dr. Rice. It was a profession that suited her meticulous nature and unwavering work ethic.
She was defined by love, selflessness and quiet strength, dedicating her life to her family and those she loved. Family was always first in her life, dinner was a nightly tradition even though her work schedule was busy. She was a wonderful daughter to her parents, always taking them for their appointments, her mother to Bingo and tending to all their needs. She had an incredible bond with her sister, Liz LaBance, they were best friends and lifelong companions. Liz lovingly cared for Irene at home until her death.
Survived by two sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” LaBance and Mary (Don) Heefner of Wayneboro.
Preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo and Father William Laska.
Interment will follow at Adrian Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Irene’s memory to SSCD, Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church or to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital or to the Shriners.
