Irene Ann Elizabeth Smart Coccimiglio, “Renie”, age 81 passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 23rd, 2026 in Newport News, Virginia.
Renie was born December 10th, 1944 in Hollywood, Pennsylvania to James Marland “Spitz” Smart and Emma Francis (Guido) Smart from Hollywood PA whom preceded her in death. She is survived by both of her brothers David J. Smart and Gerald “Jerry” Smart Sr, her loving husband of 61 years John Gerard “Johnny” Coccimiglio, eldest son of son of deceased Anthony Francis “Orsi” Coccimiglio and Mary Louise (Caruso) Coccimiglio of Force, PA. She is also survived by her son Joseph Barry Coccimiglio, his wife Deborah Rene’ Zook Coccimiglio, both of her grandsons John Anthony (Lizbeth) Coccimiglio and Christopher Alan Coccimiglio, and her granddaughter Corrine Elizabeth (Justin) Coccimiglio and one great grandson Diego.
Renie was a loving and supportive wife of her retired military husband Johnny and loving mother to their son Joseph. She was a devoted Christian woman who prayed the rosary every day. She loved to cook and bake for her family especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Renie was adamant about walking 5 miles a day at minimum, Johnny always did his best to keep up with her, not always succeeding.
Friends and family are welcome to attend any and/or all of the following. There will be a viewing held on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc. in DuBois, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in honor of her on October 3rd, 2026 at 10:30am from Holy Spirit Parish at St. Catherine of Siena in Dubois, PA with Fr. John Malthaner as celebrant. The interment & burial service will follow at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois, PA.
