George “Doug” D. Challingsworth, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022.

Born April 6, 1931, he was the first of five children to the late George “Judd” and Marguerite Challingsworth of Penfield.

Doug was an accomplished stone mason, avid sportsman, and perennial outdoorsman. He grew up in Mill Run, graduated from Huston Township High School, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Doug lived the fullness of his life in Bennett’s Valley.

He was active in the PVFD, Volunteer Forestry Service, BV Rod and Gun Club, and Brick Layers Union. Doug was instrumental in wetlands reclamation, supporting efforts to clean-up local waterways from mine waste water. Results of his commitments are visible throughout the valley, surrounding forests, and in the waters flowing to the West Branch of the Susquehanna.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie (Martin) Challingsworth, and sisters, Viola “Mickey” and Georgia.

He is survived by his brother, William “Weasel” Challingsworth, and sister, Gail (Dick) Place, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request, there are no public services. The family asks that you think of him as you enjoy hunting season or anytime you are in the woods.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adamson Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in DuBois.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Penfield Volunteer Fire Department (PFVD), P.O. Box 53, Penfield, PA 15849.
