George A Morey Jr.
1935-2023

George A Morey Jr., age 88, of Hazen, PA, died Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA. Born on April 27, 1935, to the late George A Morey Sr. and Sarah Catherine Hanley. George graduated from Brookville Area High School in 1953. After graduation, he joined the United States Army, having served in the United States Reserve and also active duty in the Cuban/Berlin Crisis. After completing his military service, George continued his education and graduated from Gannon University in 1959. George started at Brockway Glass in 1955 as a draftsman, then after graduation college continued with Brockway Glass as a Mechanical Engineer and later becoming General Manager of the Engineering Department. A job which gave him the opportunity to travel the United States, South America, Europe, and China. On September 7, 1963, George married Nellie Grace Gavazzi and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this September; Nellie Grace survives him. George was a member of the Hazen United Methodist Church until his marriage in 1963. He then became a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookville, where he served as an usher. George was also a member of the Hobah Masonic Lodge #276 and the Coudersport Consistory. In his younger days, George enjoyed playing baseball as shortstop for the Brookville Grays and eventually playing in the “Old Timers League.” After retirement, George focused on his farm and raising cattle, which he enjoyed for many years. In addition to his wife, George is survived by two children; Valerie Morey of Pittsburgh, PA and Traci (Kevin) Salandra of DuBois, PA; daughter-in-law; Maryann Morey of Hazen; his siter; Shelly (Joe) Gonzales of New Jersey; and four grandchildren; Nicholas, Addison, Mya, and Dante. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son; Craig A. Morey; and his sister; Barbara Hartle. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825, from 2pm to 6pm. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 129 Graham Ave., Brookville, PA 15825, beginning at 11am and officiated by Father William Laska.
