1945-2026
Gail Marya (Delune) Sekula, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the DuBois Village surrounded by her family.
A lifelong resident of DuBois, Gail was born on July 12, 1945 to Edwin Leopold and Esther Marya (Saucez) Delune. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edwin Delune.
Gail married Paul Sekula on November 15, 1969, during a snowstorm, at St. Catherine’s Church in DuBois. Paul and Gail remained lifelong members of St. Catherine’s (Holy Spirit Parish). Together they built a life centered around family and made countless memories.
Gail was a 1963 graduate of DuBois Area High School. In 1966, she graduated from the Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing, earning a degree as a Registered Nurse.
Gail began working as a teenager at Barraclaugh’s Florist where she learned to create beautiful Christmas centerpieces. She continued that tradition throughout her life, making arrangements that she lovingly shared with family and friends.
She began her nursing career at the Maple Avenue Hospital on the medical-surgical floor and later became a beloved school nurse at Oklahoma Elementary where she cared for many children. She also volunteered at the Free Medical Clinic and with the Association for the Blind.
Gail had a special love for animals, especially cats. Over the years, she opened her home and heart to many cats, most recently Piper and Marble. She loved traveling and was a trusting…although sometimes nervous...co-pilot to Paul in their Piper Archer airplane, 23 Charlie.
Gail was happiest when her whole family was home. Some of the best memories were made gathered around the kitchen table with time spent talking, laughing and making memories.
Gail loved the color yellow, blue skies, and sunny days--fitting colors for someone who brought warmth and comfort to the lives of others.
In addition to her husband, Gail is survived by her 3 daughters, Stacey (Sekula) Frank and her husband, Tommy Frank, of DuBois; Kelly Sekula and her wife Denise Todd, of Collegeville, PA; and Katherine “Kadie” (Sekula) Smith and her husband, Chad Smith, of Mercer, PA.
She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Jackson Frank of Lynchburg, VA and his fiancé, Shayleigh Gulvas; Jordan (Frank) Myers and her husband, Philip Myers; Jessy Frank, all of DuBois; and Austin, Alana, Sierra, and Brooklyn Smith of Mercer, PA. She is also survived by 2 step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Todd of Glacier, MT, and Christopher Todd of Collegeville.
Above all, Gail was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, nurse and friend. Her greatest joy was her family and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 10 a.m. from the Holy Spirit Parish at St. Catherine of Siena Church with Fr. John Malthaner as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon following Mass in McGivney Hall.
Memorial donations can be sent to DuBois Central Catholic, P.O. Box 567, DuBois, PA 15801.
