Frank Rend, 87, of Cloe, Bell Township, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in the town where he was born and raised.
Born on August 17, 1938, to Joseph and Julia Rend (née Lichvarcik), Frank lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, hard work, and cherished pastimes.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1963 as a damage controlman aboard the USS Caloosahatchee. His time in the Navy instilled in him a strong sense of duty and resilience that carried through every aspect of his life.
After his military service, Frank embarked on a long and dedicated career with B&O/Chessie Systems railroad. For over three decades, he worked as a conductor and brakeman, ensuring the safe passage of countless trains. His commitment to his work reflected his steadfast character and determination.
Family was at the heart of Frank’s life. He is survived by his loving children: daughter Christi Harriger (Kevin), son Francis "Frank" Rend (Jill), and son Desmond Rend (Ruth). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Frank maintained close bonds with his siblings throughout his life; he is survived by his brother Nicholas Rend (Debbie), brother Tony Rend, and sister Grace Polito (Joe). He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Julia Rend; his brother Joseph Rend; sisters Julie Tenon and Elizabeth Zook; and brother Peter Rend.
Frank had a passion for working with leather, creating pieces. After retiring from the railroad, he found great enjoyment on the golf course, spending many peaceful hours perfecting his game. In earlier years, he loved playing baseball—a sport that brought him camaraderie and excitement. Above all else, Frank treasured time spent with family. Whether through daily conversations or shared moments together, he found happiness in their company.
Frank’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and connection. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
There will be no service per his request. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Frank’s name at the Hahne Cancer Center in Dubois, PA. The staff, nurses and doctors were wonderful, and he often praised them.
