1934-2026
Esther Elaine Ott, a true lady, made the flight to her heavenly home early afternoon on Friday, May 15, 2026 while at home.
She was an only child born to the late James Paul and Virginia Ruth Kurtz Baldwin on May 2, 1934 in New Castle, PA. Instrumental in her up-bringing were her beloved Aunt Frieda and Uncle Charles Brinton. The five of them would navigate the shadow of the Great Depression; her father leaving the family farm in New Castle for work opportunity in the Pittsburgh area at what became United States Steel. Pooling resources and living all together afforded young Esty plenty of attention from the four loving adults who cared for her. She was given opportunity to study piano and developed a passion for music, which continued to grow throughout her lifetime.
Esty was a graduate of Clairton High School in 1952. She then attended and graduated from Douglas Business College, Monessen, PA. She was employed at the Daily News of McKeesport, PA then after marriage was an employee of Deposit Bank in DuBois until her first child was born.
At age 16 she met the man who would become her husband at Mahaffey Camp, Mahaffey, PA. He left on assignment through the USAF during the Korean Conflict, resulting in their 3 ½ year long-distance relationship that stood the test of time. On September 3, 1955 Esty married her sweetheart, Clyde E. Ott of DuBois, in McKeesport. Together, with strong like-mindedness, they would serve their families, church and community; he as a businessman, she as a devoted stay-at-home wife, mother, then grandmother; also fulfilling roles as a faithful daughter, neighbor, and friend. “Clyde and Esty” were a team together until his passing on December 17, 2024.
Hospitality was her gift; anyone who has sat at their dining table has had the opportunity to experience the warmth and welcome she and Clyde offered. She was a wonderful cook and baker and loved sharing. She was artistic, which was evident through her well-decorated home and her flourishing flower gardens. Esty also had a special sense of fashion and made a beautiful presentation.
Paramount was her love for her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. She will be remembered and honored for her service through Christian Women’s Club. She held CWC Bible Studies and Prayer Coffees in her home. Esty served as church musician and pianist for many years at the C&MA Church in DuBois, then most recently at Narrows Creek Church. Her ability to create chords and embellish hymns was an anointing like no other. She accompanied many local vocalists and notable guest singers very capably. Esty also served as Sunday School teacher, and shared co-leadership of her husband’s College and Career Class organizing social activities. She and Clyde also were committed members of the Gideon organization.
Dear Esty has been a blessing, and the impact she has made will not be forgotten.
Mother, you will be sorrowfully missed by us, your children, Gaye E. (Jeffrey) Miller, James A. (Tammy) Ott, and Dr. Gary D. (Sonia) Ott. We rise up and call you blessed for your sacrificial love and devotion, and your strong call to duty as a Christian mother.
Also giving you honor are beloved step-grands and grandchildren: Clayton, Sydney and Abigail Miller, Aubrey and Avery Ott, Alexander and Adam Ott.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 2P-4P, then 6P-8P at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc., DuBois. Friday morning, May 22, 2026: Visitation at Narrows Creek Church, DuBois 10A-11A; funeral service starting at 11:00A. Reverend Daniel Muir will be officiating with Reverend Bill Edwards co-officiating. Interment will be at Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.
