Eizetta “Midge” Doretha Mesanko, 82, of Punxsutawney, passed away home surrounded by her loving children on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
She was born in Varnville, South Carolina, she lovingly was raised in the Reynoldsville area by her uncle Joseph Shaffer and aunt Nannie Dee Shaffer, whom she considered parents.
In 1962, she married Joseph Andrew Mesanko. They raised four children and enjoyed spending time together. He preceded her in death on January 09, 2025.
Midge was a woman whose heart seemed to have no limits, especially when it came to her family, children and animals. Particularly her beloved cat, Blake, who was her faithful companion and a source of comfort. To know her was to know true kindness, she was genuinely one of the kindest people you could ever meet, leaving a lasting warmth in the lives of everyone she touched. The kitchen was another place where her heart truly shined, she was a very good cook and made wonderful meals for her family. Her enjoyments were country music and dancing, she was formerly an amazing dancer with her partner Joe.
She is survived by three children, Joseph (Patricia) Mesanko, Jr. of Adrian, Thomas (Michelle) Mesanko of Desire and Colleen (Adam) Moore of Mahaffey; son in-law, Mark Himes; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Derek, Corey, Chelsea, Kelsea, and Braedin Mesanko and Mark Himes, Jr; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Butch (Adele) Shaffer of Leesville, Virginia and David (Ruth Ann) Schaffer of Varnville, South Carolina; one sister, DiAne (Roy) Cook of Cummings, South Carolina; sister in-law, Nancy Schaffer of Effingham, South Carolina.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Mesanko; one daughter, Catherine “Cathy” Ann Himes; five brothers, Rudolph Schaffer, HD Schaffer, Sonny Shaffer, Wayne Shaffer and Foy Schaffer; eight sisters, Lucy McAlister, Bet Cook, Shirley Reed, Barbara Pearson, Judy Cook, Rosa Rita Schaffer, Lois Giles and Arveta Mowrey.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Interment will be at Adrian-Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery.
