1939-2025
Dorothy Mae “Dodie” Watt, age 86, passed away on December 17, 2025, after several years of living with dementia. At the time of her passing, she was a resident of the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born on November 26, 1939, in Weedville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Wright “Sargent” Beck and Mildred “Millie” Anderson Beck. She grew up on Gardner Hill and graduated from Bennett’s Valley High School in 1957.
In June of 1960, she married James “Jim” Watt. Together they shared 32 years of marriage until Jim’s passing. From their union came four children, and in addition, Dodie was blessed to love and share in the lives of Jim’s children from an earlier marriage.
Dodie was a worker in every sense of the word. She ironed clothes, cleaned offices, worked alongside Jim in the used furniture business, and made sure supper was on the table each night. However, the role for which she was most fondly remembered was that of a babysitter. For forty years, Dodie had the privilege of watching over many wonderful children who would grow into remarkable adults. She took great pride in that work.
While she worked hard, Dodie loved her family even more. Her children—Brenda, Mid, Gordon, and Charlie—meant the world to her. Her grandchildren completed her life. Jonah, London, and Jordan combined her lifelong gifts of caring for children with her ability to love beyond measure. Her last understandable words were spoken in concern for them, as she asked how her grandkids were doing.
The foundation that enabled Dodie to give so much of herself was her deep love for Jesus, which guided her life and sustained her through all seasons.
Dodie is survived by her four children: Brenda (Bruce) Homan of Madisonburg, PA; Mildred “Mid” Powers, Gordon Watt, and Charlie Watt, all of DuBois, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jonah, London, and Jordan Watt, all of DuBois, PA. She is further survived by Jim’s children: Susan (Charles) Sorey of Forrest, MS, and Andy (Sherry) Watt of DuBois, PA.
She is also survived by her siblings: Sylvia Wilson; David (Delores) Beck; Nancy Chan;Naomi (Bernard) O’Kane, and David (Vivian) Beck. She was preceded in death by her siblings Gordon, Archie, and Alvin Beck, as well as Jim’s first born, Jimmy Watt.
Dodie will be remembered for her tireless work ethic, her unwavering devotion to family, and the quiet faith that shaped her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through all who were blessed to know her.
