Betty Means, 98, of Valier, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Crystal Waters Personal Care Home.
She was born in Perry Township on April 20, 1926, a daughter of the late Mayes Lingenfelter and Avis (Reed) Lingenfelter.
In 1947, she married James H. Means. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2014.
Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family. Decorating for every holiday and season brought her joy and created a home that was as welcoming as it was beautiful. Her hobbies included needle work, knitting, reading, shopping and traveling with her husband.
Survived by one daughter, Diana M. (Edward) Gemmell of Valier; seven grandchildren, Heath Means, Johanna Means, Kaylyn (Derek) Cox, Andrew Means, Eric (Cheryl) Gemmell, Rob (Cindy) Gemmell, and Allen Gemmel and fiancé Kaylah Burke; eight great-grandchildren, Danielle Means, Kade Means, Heath Means, Jr.. Andrea Gemmell, John Gemmell, Rocky Gemmell, Abby Gemmell and Ruby Cox; two sisters, Nancy (Tom) Brash of Florida and Daneen (Tom) Bowers of Fordham; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Daniel Means and James A. Means; three brothers, Jack Lingenfelter, David Lingenfelter and Thomas Lingenfelter; five sisters, June Atcheson, Phyllis Dudley, Dorothy Truman, Patty Lingenfelter and Carol Young.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Her ashes will be interred at Valier Cemetery.
