Betty Irene Johnson, age 93 of DuBois, PA, formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, died Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.
Born on December 29, 1931 in Washington Township, Jefferson County, she was the daughter of the late R. Melvin and Martha (McClelland) Klingensmith.
Betty was a 1950 graduate of the DuBois Area High School and a 1953 graduate of the Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing.
On September 2, 1955 she married Donald L. Johnson. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2021.
During her career she had worked as a General Duty Nurse, Obstetrics, Mental Health, and Intensive Care at five different hospitals in Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and concluded her career as Head Nurse at the Church of God Home in Carlisle, PA. Betty did volunteer work in the communities where she lived, and was Chairman of the American Heart Fund Drive in Front Royal. She enjoyed golfing, cooking,
Baking, (especially whoopie pies), watching baseball and frequent family gatherings.
Betty is survived by four children (Andy Johnson and his wife Sue of Bloomfield Hill, MI, Danny Johnson and his wife Connie of Sunbury, OH, Janice Pritchett and her husband Dennis of Alexandria, VA, and Patty Schiefer and her husband Mark of Ocala, FL), eight grandchildren (Brent Johnson, Cora Reed and her husband Nick, Patrick Johnson and his wife Erin, Ryan Johnson and his wife Cassidi, Meghann, Michael, and Joey Pritchett, and Emily Roberts and her husband Joey), 5 great grandchildren (Calum Reed, Kennedy and Parker Johnson, and Linett and Milan Roberts), three sisters (Mable Farrow and her husband Dyke of Gainesville, FL; Mary Ann Ferraro and her husband R. Leo of Brockway, PA and Barbara Horner of Falls Creek, PA), and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister (Marilyn Stewart), and two brothers (Robert and Donald Klingensmith).
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc with Pastor Brett Dinger officiating.
Burial will follow in Beechwoods Cemetery.
Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.
