Bernice Mae Homan
1934-2025

Bernice Mae Homan, 91, of Rochester Mills, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

She was born at home in Smithport, Indiana County on May 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Lindsey Earl Richardson and Mary Itrice (Houck) Richardson.

In July of 1951, she married Jack Lorin Homan, Sr., he preceded her in death in May of 1981.

Bernice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Marchand.

Her enjoyments were working outside in her flowers, yard work, baking, crocheting, and shopping.  Her love for antiquing was formed when she and Jack would visit small town shops, garage sales, or dusty old barns looking for a treasure.  Her passion for small, cherished items continued for many years.

Bernice was a humble woman who found her greatest pleasure at home in the company of her family, she loved her children and grandchildren dearly.  She always remembered her nieces and nephews by mailing cards with a little money tucked inside on their birthdays.

She is survived by four children, Jack Lorin (Vicki) Homan, Jr. of Marchand, Jeffrey Lynn (Jill) Homan of Rochester Mills, Andrea Lee Ball of Rochester Mills and Douglas Charles (Sylvia) Homan of Emporium; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, and three brothers, James Richardson, Denny Richardson and John Richardson; two sisters, Ethel Gardner and Mary North.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Don Brauer.

Interment will follow at Mahoning Union Cemetery in Marchand.
