Albert Leroy Barnett
1936-2026

Albert Leroy Barnett, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born in Punxsutawney on January 26, 1936, a son of the late Lawrence Edward Barnett and Evalyn Mae (Lewis) Barnett.

Mr. Barnett was United States Air Force Veteran who faithfully served his country during the Korean War.

On April 05. 1958, he married the love of his life, Emily Caroline (Godo) Barnett.  They enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage.

Mr. Barnett was a life member of the American Legion Post #62, Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #1231, and the former Elks Post 301.  He was a proud thirty-second degree Mason with John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge #276, past member of the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona.

Albert worked in field service, quality control, and management over his career, which included Cold Pat Fire Arms, Pratti Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut and Femco machine, from which he retired in 1995. Al was instrumental and huge supporter of his son Jeff’s business, Barnett Repair, he helped out as the parts man for the business for many years. He loved to work, enjoyed staying busy and finding pride and satisfaction in a job well done.

Above all, he loved his family and particularly enjoyed his grandchildren.  Family was important to him, straightforward by nature, his love came through his actions more than words. Beneath his tough exterior was a heart full of loyalty, pride and unwavering devotion.

In addition to his wife Emily, he is survived by one son, Jeff (Mary Kay) Barnett of Punxsutawney; three grandsons, Joshua (Alicia) Barnett, Justin (Tami) Barnett, all of Punxsutawney and Jeffrey (fiancé Jordan Fetterman) Barnett, Jr of Home; four great grandchildren, Kinsee Barnett, Keeston (Mackenzie Atcheson) Perry, Kamden and Sawyer Barnett; four sisters, Judy (Joel) Brooks of Rossiter, Barbara Pape of Punxsutawney, Donna Reinhart of Punxsutawney and Kay James and partner John of Rossiter.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Kemp, brother in-law’s Harry Kemp, Bill Reinhart and Mike Pape.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.  A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by nephew Jared Brooks.

A John W.  Jenks Masonic service will be held and military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will be private at Lakelawn Memorial Park.
