CLEARFIELD – A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Clearfield County, the warden of the county jail, and five corrections officers at the jail.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court Friday on behalf of Heather Walstrom, the mother of 31-year-old Kaitlyn Evans who died of a drug overdose at the jail in July.

The complaint contends that the warden was aware that drugs had been smuggled into the jail three days prior to Evans’ overdose, but did nothing to locate them.

The suit also alleges that jail employees ignored Evans for over 35 minutes after she was showing signs of a medical emergency.

Last month, Clearfield Regional Police charged 38-year-old Angela Ricketts of smuggling drugs into the jail.

Ricketts is facing multiple offenses including drug delivery resulting in death.
