UNDATED – The first snowfall of the year is slated to hit our area early Friday morning bringing snow, freezing rain, and cold temperatures.

With road conditions potentially becoming slick and dangerous, we hear from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials, who are prepared for the winter weather.

We heard from Steve Harmic, Safety Press Officer for PennDOT District 2, who told us that they have crews on standby ready for when frigid conditions hit our area.

“PennDOT is prepared for winter operations,“ explained Harmic. “We’ve got 40,000 tons of salt and 34,000 tons of anti-skid that are ready to go for District 2. Which covers nine counties right through the center of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Our trucks are switched over with plows ready to go, and we have a few complimented drives ready to meet the challenge.”

If you plan on traveling during inclement weather, be sure to be mindful and practice safe driving habits.
