BROCKWAY – Revelations of asbestos in Brockway waters has the Brockway Area School District installing dozens of water filters throughout the region.

Superintendent Brian Mulhollan announced at the School Board’s Tuesday night meeting that over 80 5-micron water filters are going to be installed at numerous points of contact.

“It’s called a point of use,“ explained Superintendent Mulhollan. “That would be anywhere where water is consumed, which would be your water fountains, your sinks, and so forth where water may be consumed. If you’re making drinking water into a pot or a pot of coffee or wherever it might be. For students, in the cafeteria as well. Our hot water system intake will also have a filtration system put on it, family consumer science. We’ve identified over 80 sources in both buildings that will need a point of use 5-micron filter on them.”

Last month, a member of the public approached the board with concerns related to the asbestos issue, proposing water filters as a solution.
