Sandy Township, PA – The multi-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon left one person dead and at least four other people injured, and police are investigating it as a homicide by motor vehicle.
Around 3:13 p.m. Saturday, State Police in DuBois say a vehicle was driving west in the eastbound lane, somewhere between exit 97 and exit 101.
Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers has released the name of the driver of the wrong way vehicle, 33-year-old Shara Franco from Brockway. She will be facing charges.
Franco’s westbound-headed vehicle struck another vehicle traveling eastbound.
She then hit a second vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Ryan Muirhead from DuBois, head-on.
Muirhead was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Multiple medical helicopters responded to the scene, and four people were reportedly flown to the hospital for their injuries.
The eastbound lanes of I-80 in the DuBois area were closed for several hours, causing traffic delays and backups throughout DuBois and Sandy Township. The lanes were reopened around 9 p.m.
