HARRISBURG – More than $5-million in grant funding has been awarded to the Tri-County area’s United Electric Cooperative by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

United Electric receives the money from the state’s Resilience Grant Program which intends to improve electric grid reliability and durability.

United Electric says the money will help fortify the electric grid across Clearfield, Jefferson, and Elk counties. The rural electric cooperative plans to revitalize an outdated substation, replace and relocate power lines, implement smart grid technology, and conduct extensive tree trimming.
