PUNXSUTAWNEY – Two Jefferson County firefighters have been honored by a local family by being presented with a Medal of Valor.
Derek Miller and Bryan Smith of the Punxsutawney Volunteer Fire Department were given the medals to recognize their heroism when they rescued an elderly woman trapped in house fire in December 2022.
The family who gave the awards to the firemen has asked to remain anonymous, but they stated in a letter that there is “no greater form of heroism or valor” than what was shown by the volunteer firefighters that day.
