UPDATE: Jefferson County man charged with attempted homicide

UPDATE —A Jefferson County man has been charged with attempted homicide following the Monday night shooting in Punxsutawney in which two people were wounded. According to court documents, 22-year-old Matthew Brotherton of Punxsutawney is awaiting a preliminary hearing on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and burglary.

Punxsutawney Police say Brotherton broke into a Woodland Avenue residence to seek out a 27-year-old unnamed man. Brotherton allegedly experienced a “failed relationship” with a female who lived in that home. As Brotherton confronted and was fighting with the victim, he reportedly pulled a gun and shot the other man twice, in the abdomen and leg.

Police say the victim was then able to retrieve a gun from a nearby bedroom, and he fired it at Brotherton.

The victim received medical attention at Penn Highlands DuBois, and Brotherton was treated for his wounds at Punxsutawney Hospital.

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Two Jefferson County men suffered gunshot wounds in a fight Monday night, according to Punxsutawney Police.

Limited details have been provided, but police say the 27-year-old unnamed victim was shot by a 22-year-old man who reportedly experienced a “failed relationship” with a female who lived in the home where the shooting happened.

The suspect allegedly entered the Woodland Avenue residence to seek out the victim.

As the two men fought, the suspect pulled a gun and fired two rounds which hit the victim in the abdomen and leg.

The victim then reportedly retrieved a gun from a nearby bedroom and fired at the suspect.

The victim received medical attention at Penn Highlands DuBois, and the suspect was treated for his wounds at Punxsutawney Hospital.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
