WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lead by Tri-County area U.S. Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson, more than 330 U.S. House members recently voted in favor of the “Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act.” If this legislation becomes law, it will restore the option of whole milk in all school nutrition programs.
Thompson said he is pleased to see his resolution pass out of the House of Representatives, and he ultimately is looking forward to restoring access to nutritious beverages in schools across the country.
Citing the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Thompson noted that milk is a source of three-out-of-four under-consumed nutrients – calcium, potassium, and vitamin D. He went on to note that whole milk offers 13 essential nutrients and numerous health benefits.
