Tempers flare during consolidation meeting

DUBOIS – In a lively meeting on Wednesday night, spirited discussions were thrown regarding bullying and the highly anticipated 2025 Community Days.

The Consolidation Board meeting took a passionate turn when representatives from DuBois and Sandy Township Fire Departments wanted to revive the festivities after having to cancel last year.

Greg Gillaugh, of TURNaBOUT Boxing, and one of 2024’s DuBois Day’s host organizations suggested that the Fire Departments should consider joining with DuBois Days instead of reviving Community Days.

The meeting quickly devolved into accusations, counter accusations, and yelling between the two parties.

Tensions escalated further when DuBois Councilwoman and Joint Board Member Jennifer Jackson, said  “I have three firemen that sit here and would let my building burn to the ground, And you know what, that’s ok because I pay insurance.”

Firefighters expressed their disbelief stating, “As far as Ms. Jackson saying that there are three firefighters in this room that wouldn’t put out her fire, are you kidding me, seriously, that’s insulting to the Fire Department.“

In the end, the Joint Board decided to postpone their decision on the Community Days to allow all parties to calmly discuss the topic.
