CLEARFIELD – A tax increase remains in the 2024 budget for Clearfield Borough.

The town’s council first approved the tax bump in December, but called for a special meeting this week to discuss and consider reopening the spending plan.

The Borough Council elaborated Tuesday that half of the tax revenue increase will be going to the Clearfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Public comments at the meeting included accusations of the budget being prepared hastily, and that the tax increase “was not warranted and cannot be justified.” Two other Clearfield residents asked council to reconsider the tax increase.

Following discussion. a few minor changes were made to the budget, but the tax increase stayed in place as council voted to pass the final budget plan.
