Sykesville, PA – A Sykesville woman was scammed out of $10,000 when a scam artist told her she had a virus on her computer.
The 71-year-old woman got the computer virus on Dec. 21, and she was then directed to transfer $10,000 through a Bitcoin ATM in an attempt to remedy the virus.
She was scammed out of the money.
The investigation continues.
Police remind you that if someone threatens you or claims you need to send money, that’s a sign of a scam. You can always call your local police to get advice if you suspect that something might be a scam.
