DUBOIS – A groundbreaking partnership between Penn Highlands and the DuBois Area School District is allowing students to learn in a clinical setting.
The Patient Care Assistant Student Course, which began on August 25th, allows high school students to work in a healthcare setting gaining hands-on experience while earning money.
Upon completion of this six week course, students will be able to transition into healthcare careers at Penn Highlands DuBois.
This opportunity is open to all students 16 years or older who have a passion for the medical field.
Below is more from the DuBois School District:
Community Partnerships and Donations
Our district continues to be blessed with strong partnerships and generous support from our community:
- Penn Highlands Family Medicine Residency – Thank you to Brianna Kunes and the Residency team for the donation of school supplies and backpacks to ensure students in need are prepared for a successful year. These resources were distributed to our social workers and special education classrooms at the middle school.
- Domtar – Thank you for a generous $1,000 donation to Juniata Elementary to provide school supplies for students in need.
- Clearfield Jefferson Drug & Alcohol Commission – We are grateful for the donation of 150 stress balls to support student stress management. This generous gift came after a conversation with our social workers, demonstrating the Commission’s responsiveness and commitment to student well-being.
- Delaney Toyota – In addition to an incredible $20,000 donation, Delaney Toyota, through the Kids in Need Foundation, provided nearly 600 backpacks filled with school supplies for every student at Juniata and Oklahoma Elementary.
- Spitzer Subaru – Thank you for adopting a classroom at Oklahoma Elementary, supporting teachers and students with much-needed classroom resources.
- Rugged Cross Church – We appreciate the donation of personal hygiene products for students in need. This is the second time the church has proactively stepped forward to provide essential support for our students.
- We Care for Kids – Our gratitude goes to this organization for their ongoing commitment to children across our community. Their donations of clothing and personal hygiene products benefit students in all six DASD schools, as well as Jeff Tech and Pentz Run.
- DuBois Chamber of Commerce – Thank you to Director Jodi August and the many local businesses who contributed to welcome bags for our new educators. These bags showcased our community with gifts, maps, visitor guides, coupons, and resources to help our new staff feel at home.
Celebrating Achievements
- Highmark Foundation Grant – Congratulations to Dr. Mollie Anzinger, principal of Juniata Elementary, for securing a $4,000 Highmark Foundation grant. This funding will support the development of a positive school culture through the “3C Learning Community,” including a calm classroom and communication area.
- Summer Reading BINGO – Congratulations to Ember Black and Mack McGarvey, winners of the Summer Reading BINGO challenge. We hope you enjoy your Imagination Boxes donated by the First Class Children’s Foundation.
- For their Girl Scouts Silver Award project, Payson Preston and Josaphina Elias recently took the lead in organizing a career fair that spotlighted women working in fields traditionally dominated by men. The event was open to female students in grades 5 through 8 and featured a panel of approximately 20 accomplished women. Each panelist shared a brief overview of her career journey, followed by an individualized question-and-answer session that gave students the opportunity to engage more deeply. I was honored to serve as one of the panelists and was truly impressed by Payson and Josaphina’s vision, organization, and leadership in bringing this meaningful event to life.
