Strong winds, storms knock out power to thousands

DUBOIS – Severe storms and powerful wind gusts caused many downed trees and power lines throughout our tri-county area Saturday.

The strong winds began to affect the area Saturday morning and continued into the evening. More than 40,000 customers were left without power Saturday. Even into mid-day Sunday there were nearly 10,000 power outages in Clearfield and Jefferson counties.

Even though electric companies hoped to have power restored to most customers by last night, some outages remain today and may possibly last several days.

Shelters have been set up at the Treasure Lake Church in DuBois, Curwensville Alliance Church, the Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Allport, and at the Coalport and Madera fire halls.
