Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania state budget meeting starts today in the PA State Senate.
There’s a change this year for the Senate Appropriations Committee’s hearings on Governor Wolf’s proposed 2021-22 state budget.
In the past, the House and Senate hearings have run concurrently through the month of February; the House finished its hearings last week, keeping with a normal schedule. But the Senate delayed the start of its hearing schedule to this week, beginning March 8, and it will continue into April.
The Republican Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman, Senator Pat Browne of Lehigh County, said the intent of new dates is to get the hearings moved closer to the start of actual budget negotiations between the administration and legislature.
Both the House and Senate must, according to state law, agree on a state budget and get it to the Governor’s desk by June 30th.
