SANDY TOWNSHIP – Possible solar energy projects are coming to the Sandy Township area.
On Monday night the Sandy Township Board of supervisors revisited the currently in progress solar ordinance with many points of discussion.
The Township would like to bypass a current limitation in where solar farms could go based on soil types, making up to 80% more property available for solar use.
The Township is, however, limiting access along roadways and sewers to allow new infrastructure.
According to Township Manager, Shawn Arbaugh, solar energy has drawn interest to our area.
“We’ve had a couple of inquiries, serious inquiries about it,” explained Arbaugh. “And I believe there is one project for about a 90 acre development in the PJM. My understanding is that there are some regulations that are newer, for folks with 25 acres or less for development. So it’s an opportunity that you don’t have to go through that PJM process, so we’ve had a couple people inquire. So we want to facilitate that in a good way within the community.”
