DuBois, PA – During a time when so many of the small businesses in our area have struggled, please don’t forget about them as you’re doing your holiday shopping.
In fact, many local shops are having special deals specifically for Shop Small Saturday!
Please stop to get a goodie bag with coupons and other information at our radio station studios on West Long Avenue this Saturday from 9 until they’re gone.
Even if you are unable to get a goodie bag, we encourage you to look at local stores’ websites and social media pages to see what kinds of deals they have.
You can help sustain local business by shopping local and shopping small this holiday season. When you shop small, you’re helping local small business owners and businesses we know and love.
They have lasting power in our community because people like you do business with them!
KEEP THE CHEER HERE! Let’s shop local on Saturday, Nov. 27 and throughout the rest of the holiday season.
Why shop local?
The people who own and work at these businesses live here. Their kids play soccer with your kids. They go to your church. They live and work in your community.
Amazon does not need more of your money. These small businesses, however, depend on your purchases to exist.
Holiday shopping ideas for small businesses:
- Gift cards – A gift card is kind of like giving a small loan to a business! You or someone else will eventually buy something form them or eat in their restaurant, but in the meantime the money you spend for the gift card will help get these businesses through a difficult time.
- Unique holiday gifts – Don’t give your loved ones something that you can find in any chain store! Give them something special that they can’t find elsewhere.
- Have food delivered to someone else – Know someone who could use a little pick-me-up? First, make sure they’ll be home to receive a delivery. Then call their favorite restaurant and pay for a meal to be delivered to their home! Ask if you can pre-pay for the tip for the delivery driver too… that way the recipient won’t have to worry about anything!
Jodi August, director of the DuBois Chamber of Commerce, talks about her holiday shopping and how we can “keep cheer here” this season.
