DuBois, PA – Randy Schmidt has now been the new mayor of DuBois for about two weeks, and we checked in with him to see how things are going.
Schmidt ran for mayor after Gary Gilbert announced last year that he would not run for re-election after acting as the DuBois City mayor for the past 10 years and had served on council for 14 years before that.
Schmidt talks about what exactly a mayor does, including something he was surprised to find out… mayors are ordained to perform marriage ceremonies! He also talks about how he didn’t expect to see a possible consolidation with Sandy Township appearing on the agenda at one of his first DuBois City Council meetings, but he’s excited to see the two municipalities working together.
Schmidt had been a council member, so his position on council has been filled temporarily by Shane Dietz. Dietz was previously the controller of DuBois City, which handles financial reporting and accounting for the city.
They’ll be advertising for the controller position now that it is left empty.
