Scams on the Rise

DUBOIS – A recent uptick of scam attempts has law enforcement warning you at home to be aware and on the prowl for attempted fraud.

Lately scammers have been calling people claiming a loved one is either in jail or faces jail time unless they are sent money.

These scammers will also ask for payment through untraceable means like gift cards.

State Representative Mike Armanini tells us that if any of the scammer’s claims are true you would receive that news in the mail from an officially sealed letter, not a phone call.

“Anytime that phone rings and someone is telling you, you need to pay $3,000 dollars or we’re going to terminate this or terminate that, your best bet is to just hang up the phone,“ explained Arminini. “But I know that’s hard for people sometimes because that scammer on the other end, remember is a professional of trying to scam you out of your hard earned money.”

To help fight against scammers plaguing the area, Representative Armanini is hosting a $CAM JAM! to help inform the community about scams in a fun and engaging way.
