Scale Solar System Project Planned for DuBois Park

DUBOIS – A group of DuBois high schoolers alongside a City Police Officer are working on installing a scaled solar system model in the city’s park.

The almost two mile long project will show off notable features of the solar system, including informational plaques with QR codes to provide a virtual tour.

Due to the vast distance between celestial bodies in the solar system, the accurate model will span 1.97 miles starting in the City Park and running along the Beaver Meadow Walkway.

This model will ultimately cost around $50,000 dollars, however local high schoolers would like to have a direct hand in the process and begin fundraising efforts.

DuBois City Council Member Shane Dietz is hopeful after seeing a similar project in other municipalities.

“I think it’s an awesome idea,“ explained Councilman Dietz. “Anyone that’s driven to Clearfield over the mountain the past few summers has seen something similar, where they have signs up showing scale planets and the distance between them. I think having something very similar across the walkway or through the park is a really neat idea, and I hope they are able to pull it off.”

The Council gave a unanimous approval to the students to begin this project. They hope to get to do it during the school year.
