Sandy Township Supervisors End Consolidation Injunction

SHARE NOW

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Supervisors voted Monday to end their injunction against the consolidation process of the City of DuBois and Sandy Township. City and Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh noted that legal counsel for both the township and city agree that the injunction has been used to acquire all of the useful information in support of consolidation. The injunction lawsuit was started in response to information that came out when former DuBois City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio was charged with various crimes related to misusing his position.

Other action at Monday’s meeting:

PERSONNEL

·         Sandy Township has, or will soon, lose three employees.

·         Public Works Director Matt Cook’s retirement letter was accepted by the Sandy Township Board of Supervisors.  Monday, the night of the meeting, was Cook’s 34th anniversary working with Sandy Township.

·         Planner/Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer Pat Green resignation letter was accepted by the Supervisors.  They wished him luck and well wishes in his future endeavors.

·         Township Police Officer Erik Rupp was fired.  Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh stated that following an off-duty crash there were enough issues surrounding it that he and Police Chief Kris Kruzelak performed a “watermill investigation”.

T.E.D.E. FOUNDATION

·         Val Day of the T.E.D.E. Foundation approached the Board of Supervisors for permission to place communication boards in the Sandy Township public park.  These vision boards are designed to help those with certain disabilities communicate.

·           There are two potential styles.  One is a free standing on its own supports.  They can also be hung on a fence.

·         The Board of Supervisors asked Township and City Engineer Chris Nasuti what the City of DuBois was planning on doing as the City of DuBois already received the same request by the T.E.D.E. Foundation.  Nasuti said it was pending a park tour with Day.  The Supervisors voted to approve the signs and to go with the same style as Nasuti decided for the City of DuBois to keep the signs consistent.

CHRIST THE KING MANOR

Christ the King Manor sought the Township’s sign off on a $1.2 million matching grant.  There was no obligation to the Township.  This just shows the Township’s support for Christ the King’s plant to use the grant funds to build a state of the art wellness facility on land they already own.  Christ the King will also be seeking an additional $4 million matching grant for the facility.

·         The facility will be located near Christ the King’s independent retiree cottages.  They will focuses on physical, mental, and social health of the residents.
