UNION TWP. – A Rockton man, whose name has not been released, was nearly scammed out of $198,000 through a forged check.
State Police say an unidentified suspect using the name “John Smallen” tried to cash a forged and fraudulent check from the victim’s bank at a Wells Fargo bank in early August.
The 63-year-old victim’s bank quickly flagged the transaction as fraudulent, and denied it from being completed.
The investigation continues.
