Rep. Kephart Backs Bill to Halt Lawmaker Pay During Budget Stalemates
State Representative Dallas Kephart, who represents parts of Clearfield and Cambria Counties, is supporting legislation that would stop paychecks for lawmakers and top state officials during a budget impasse.
Kephart is one of six co-sponsors of the bill, which calls for suspending pay for the governor, lieutenant governor, and all General Assembly members if a state budget isn’t passed by the June 30th deadline.
Kephart says the proposal is about accountability, arguing that elected officials should face the same consequences as taxpayers when budgets are delayed.
