PUNXSUTAWNEY – What started as a simple medical call escalated into an assault charge in Punxsutawney last week.

Authorities were called to 504 Sutton Street for a possible overdose. The boyfriend of 31 year-old Deanna Burkett was having difficulties waking her and called for medical help. After evaluation, Burkett signed a refusal of services.

Not long after police were dispatched to the same residence for reports of a dispute. Authorities discovered Burkett walking down the street with a visible cut on her forehead.

It was alleged that after paramedics left Burkett got into an argument with her boyfriend for calling for help. She then went for a set of car keys reportedly saying she was leaving, however the boyfriend refused to let her leave in an intoxicated state.

Burkett then allegedly threw the keys at him and began punching him in the face, she also allegedly headbutted him resulting in the cut to her forehead.

Burkett denied the allegations, however two witnesses confirmed the story to authorities.

She was then taken into custody and charged with simple assault.

She has a preliminary hearing set for October 1st.
