PUNXSUTAWNEY – Police in Punxsutawney have filed multiple felony charges, including attempted sexual assault and corruption of minors, against a 57-year-old man.
According to court documents, Roger Palmer of Mercer County is accused of sending sexually explicit messages, and then trying to meet with who he thought was a 15-year-old girl for sex.
Police say they were contacted by the 814 Pred Hunters online child protection group regarding an exchange of messages that one of their decoys was having with Palmer.
When Palmer made plans to drive to Punxsutawney to meet the girl last Saturday, police officers were ready to take Palmer into custody.
Following his arraignment, Palmer was unable to post his $80,000 bail.
He is currently in the Jefferson County Jail, and his preliminary hearing will be on Wednesday.
