CLEARFIELD – The price tag for providing Clearfield County Prison inmates with medical coverage is about to double.
At this week’s meeting of the Clearfield County Commissioners, PrimeCare Medical was approved by a 2-1 vote to provide additional and expanded coverage.
Clearfield County taxpayers will now be paying more than $776,000 for annual coverage, an increase in excess of $241,000 over last year’s price.
The CEO of PrimeCare, Tom Weber, told the commissioners that Clearfield County has a very sickly inmate population that requires extensive care.
Commissioner John Sobel voted against the plan saying it was too expensive, a burden on taxpayers, and it was double what the county agreed to pay last year.
